A journey in to Landscape Photography

Julian is drawn to the light quality that autumn and winter bring, repeatedly working at dawn and dusk, experiencing the spirit of a place as the sun rises and sets. Visiting these environments time and time again, often in extreme weather, allows him to witness the elements in all their different states. One element in particular - water, both in liquid and cloud form - features heavily in his compositions. By using long shutter speeds, Julian brings the movement of water into his landscape work, harnessing the beauty and motion of mountain rivers, streams, shorelines and skies.

To do this, we retreat to the beautiful four-star Hotel Castell in Zuoz for two full days . https://www.hotelcastell.ch The Hotel Castell is located in the middle of the impressive Engadine mountain landscape and therefore offers a perfect location and starting point for this exciting course. The course price already includes two overnight stays (double room for single use) including half board - an excellent 4-course dinner, a welcome aperitif and a delicious breakfast that leaves nothing to be desired. Lunch and drinks are exclusive. Thanks to the close cooperation with the Hotel Castell, you will be well looked after throughout your entire stay so that you can concentrate on what is really important: taking photos and learning new things, a breathtaking landscape and time to enjoy. 1/ 'Introduction talk - 'A journey into landscape photography' Julian will talk about his career as a professional advertising photographer and how this lead to his passion for landscape photography.

2/ 'My approach to landscape photography' Julian will discuss his approach to landscape photography, from both a technical and psychological point of view. This also includes lighting and composition discussion.

3/ 'The use of filters' Julian will discuss and illustrate his use of filters. In particular the use of neutral density ND grads.

4/ 'Inspiration' Julian talks about the work and non photographic influences that have inspired him over the years and talk about the process that lead to his award winning book 'North Northwest'

5/ 'Shooting panoramic landscapes' Julian discusses his approach to panoramic work, using both the shift and panning methods.

6/ 'Post production' Julian discusses his approach, thought process and technique to post production.
